SV4B Stampe Biplanes

During the 2019 season, the team was discussing potential new projects and it was decided to do a team build of 3 Stampe biplanes for general sport flying and also to provide a display spectacle of all 3 flying together. Unusually for the team, it was decided to use an existing kit and the design from SLEC was selected as a basis for the project. Kits and the associated fiberglass cowlings were purchased and the building commenced. John built his model and the wings for Darren whilst they got on with their other projects and built their fuselages.

It was decided at an early stage to make the models electric powered and they all run similar powertrains based on a 160 size motor with an 80 amp speed controller and use 2 x 5S lipos in series to provide 10S to the motor. With this setup, the models are well overpowered but flown in a scale manner they can fly aerobatics for over 15 mins per charge without overtaxing the batteries.

The basic airframe complete and covered in Diatex.

Darren's Stampe ready to fly. Varnished Diatex finish with coloured trim and a painted cowl.
